Jekyll & Hyde

In 1889, a hideous and very violent man is terrorizing London, and the man who created him, Dr. Jekyll (Michael Caine), finds it increasingly hard to control him. The umpteenth retelling of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale came on the heels of director David Wickes’s successful 1988 miniseries Jack the Ripper and features some of the same actors and, most likely, sets, props and costumes. The stories also share a similar theme, a desire to abandon one’s proper demeanor and encourage the sexual and brutal monster within. Not bad, but unremarkable compared to some of its predecessors.

1990-Britain-U.S. Made for TV. 96 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ David Wickes. Novel: Robert Louis Stevenson. Cast: Michael Caine (Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde), Cheryl Ladd (Sara Crawford), Joss Ackland (Charles Lanyon), Ronald Pickup, Kevin McNally, Diane Keen.
