Blood Diamond

IT WILL COST YOU EVERYTHING.

Sierra Leone, 1999. The country is ravaged by civil war; diamond smuggler Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) helps a local fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) reunite with his family – and locate a hidden, huge diamond. The filmmakers take a very serious subject, the dirty, illegal and very bloody diamond trade, and puts it at the center of an exciting thriller. DiCaprio and, particularly, Hounsou give compelling performances as two very different men trying to survive in the shootouts between government troops and rebels. Competently made… but overlong and somewhat unfocused.

2006-U.S. 143 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Edward Zwick. Music: James Newton Howard. Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio (Danny Archer), Jennifer Connelly (Maddy Bowen), Djimon Hounsou (Solomon Vandy), Kagiso Kuypers, Arnold Vosloo, Michael Sheen.

Trivia: Russell Crowe was allegedly considered for the part of Archer.
