BOB’S A SPECIAL KIND OF FRIEND. THE KIND THAT DRIVES YOU CRAZY!
The day before his vacation starts, psychiatrist Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) agrees to see a new patient (Bill Murray), but doesn’t realize that he is the beginning to the end of his career. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Dreyfuss can be very funny. He’s perfect in this well-made comedy as a shrink who is so full of himself he could explode any minute. Matching him with Murray, who is also wonderful as the cheerfully annoying Bob, is as much a strength in the film as the script. Things spin out of control in the end, but not too much, and there is warmth in the portrayal of Bob and the Doc’s family.
