Man About Town

SOMETIMES IT’S NOT ABOUT GETTING THE DEAL. IT’S ABOUT GETTING A LIFE.

Successful Hollywood talent agent Jack Giamoro (Ben Affleck) is deeply unhappy and starts attending a course where he’s told to keep a journal of his life… Filmmakers usually portray Hollywood agents with a certain amount of contempt and this Jerry Maguire (1996) wannabe is no exception. Unfortunately, the Upside of Anger (2005) director’s dark comedy went straight to DVD because there’s too much whining and too little genuine emotion for one to care much about Affleck’s problems. A subplot where the journal is stolen leads nowhere.

2005-U.S.-Canada. 98 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Mike Binder. Cast: Ben Affleck (Jack Giamoro), Rebecca Romijn (Nina Giamoro), John Cleese (Primkin), Gina Gershon, Adam Goldberg, Howard Hesseman… Jerry O’Connell, Kal Penn.
