THE FIRST DANCING MUSICAL IN 100% NEW TECHNICOLOR.Ā
In the early 1800s, dance teacher Jonathan Price (Charles Collins) is shanghaied but escapes and ends up in a village where he is believed to be a pirate. This is an early Technicolor movie, unfortunately rather cheaply done and nearly forgotten. The music and the production design get a shot in the arm from the Latino environment, but the songs are as inconsequential as the story itself. Collins is no competition for, say, Gene Kelly, but the director still injects a sense of humor with help from the befuddled Frank Morgan.Ā
