WHAT DO YOU SEE?
John Klein (Richard Gere), a widower, ends up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where people have made sightings of a mothman warning them of an impending catastrophe. Here’s a movie based on events that took place in Point Pleasant in the 1960s, but the best way to enjoy it is as a straightforward thriller. The filmmakers cleverly create a disconcerting atmosphere; there are themes of grief and predestination that support the story in intriguing ways. Good performances help and there’s a terrifying climax; hardly blindingly original stuff, but engaging.
