Four Brothers

THEY CAME HOME TO BURY MOM… AND HER KILLER.

When their mother is shot dead in a supermarket, four adopted brothers reunite in Detroit to find and kill the murderers. John Singleton goes Death Wish (1974) on us with this violent and ultimately rather nasty action thriller. Very well made in some respects, but it does also take turns being silly and misogynistic – hardly endearing traits. The portrayal of the four, rowdy troublemakers is the most entertaining part of the film, with Mark Wahlberg standing out as the hot-tempered Bobby.

2005-U.S. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Singleton. Music: David Arnold. Cast: Mark Wahlberg (Bobby Mercer), Tyrese Gibson (Angel Mercer), André Benjamin (Jerry Mercer), Garrett Hedlund (Jack Mercer), Terrence Howard, Josh Charles… Fionnula Flanagan.

Trivia: The film virtually has the same story as The Sons of Katie Elder (1965). Ethan Hawke, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were allegedly considered for the part of Bobby.
