Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

LIVE BY THE CODE. DIE BY THE CODE.Ā

An assassin called Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker), who lives alone with his pigeons on a rooftop, suddenly gets into trouble with New York mobsters. Director Jim Jarmusch moves from a literary western, Dead Man (1995), to a story about a man who lives his life according to the rules described in a book about the samurai. Whitaker is cool, likeable and agile in that part as he fights clichĆ©d Mafiosi with names like Big Angie and Handsome Frank. Itā€™s all very stylish, occasionally funny, but the story moves slowly and the emotional impact is zero. Fans of the director will appreciate his touches.

1999-U.S.-France. 116 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Jim Jarmusch. Music: RZA. Cast: Forest Whitaker (Ghost Dog), John Tormey (Louie), Cliff Gorman (Sonny Valerio), Henry Silva, Isaach de BankolĆ©, Tricia Vessey.
