THE FAIRY TALE IS ABOUT TO GET REAL.
The Prince of Denmark (Luke Mably) goes to a college in Wisconsin to study without telling anyone who he is; he falls in love with an unwitting girl (Julia Stiles). Director Martha Coolidge’s first film in almost a decade is a cute fairy tale for preteens in the vein of The Princess Diaries (2001). Mably makes a pretty bland prince, but Stiles is better and they are capably supported by Miranda Richardson as the demanding Queen. This is very predictable entertainment, but at least they made the effort to shoot scenes in Copenhagen.
2004-U.S. 111 min. Color. Directed by Martha Coolidge. Cast: Julia Stiles (Paige Morgan), Luke Mably (Prince Edvard), Ben Miller (Søren), Miranda Richardson, James Fox, Eliza Bennett.
Trivia: Followed by three direct-to-DVD sequels, starting with The Prince & Me 2 (2006).
