The Transporter

RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN.

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) works as a transporter in southern France, delivering packages without asking questions; one day he opens one of them – and becomes a target. Beginning with a terrific car chase, this action movie remains fairly entertaining throughout with attractive Riviera locales and a pretty likeable and effective performance by Statham as the ace transporter. But everyone else in the cast gives one-note performances (except François Berléand as the friendly cop) and the plot is sincerely dumb.

2002-France. 92 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Luc Besson, Steve Chasman. Directed by Cory Yuen. Screenplay: Luc Besson, Robert Mark Kamen. Cast: Jason Statham (Frank Martin), Shu Qi (Lai), François Berléand (Tarconi), Matt Schulze, Ric Young.

Trivia: Followed by three sequels, starting with Transporter 2 (2005), and a TV series, Transporter: The Series (2012-2014).
