ADVENTURE HAS A NEW DESTINATION.
Adventurer Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) comes to Mali to find a Civil War ironclad that made its way to Africa in 1865; he joins forces with a WHO doctor (Penélope Cruz). An adventure flick of the classical kind that benefits from its African locations. The movie has a certain charm, OK action sequences and fairly amusing heroes – but that’s all there is to it. Director Breck Eisner raises the temperature in the final showdown, but the film’s general mediocrity is a problem, and so is the overlong running time.
