BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.
Anna (Nicole Kidman) is about to marry Joseph (Danny Huston) when a ten-year-old boy (Cameron Bright) shows up and claims to be her reincarnated husband who died ten years ago. The director of Sexy Beast (2001) delivers a dark drama that earnestly tries to depict the fear and doubt that color a potentially supernatural situation like this one; it’s an attempt to turn a familiar Hollywood subject into something different. The film opens well enough, in an appropriate low-key tone, but the ending is disappointing. However, the cast is good (including Bright) and the score is a standout.
