The Omen

HIS DAY WILL COME.

Robert Thorn (Liev Schreiber), the American ambassador to Britain, begins to suspect that his five-year-old son could be the anti-Christ. This remake of the 1976 classic uses the color red in effective ways, offers an interesting take on the decapitation scene of the original and gives Mia Farrow and her Rosemary’s Baby past a fitting salute… but the Julia Stiles-Schreiber couple lack charisma, young Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick is not that scary and the filmmakers are too respectful to make this anything but a mechanical remake.

2006-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Moore. Cast: Julia Stiles (Katherine Thorn), Liev Schreiber (Robert Thorn), Mia Farrow (Mrs. Baylock), Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick (Damien Thorn), David Thewlis, Pete Postlethwaite… Michael Gambon.

Trivia: Rachel Weisz was allegedly considered for the part of Kathy. Harvey Stephens, the original Damien, has a cameo as a tabloid reporter.
