WHEN YOU’RE SEARCHING FOR A KILLER… THE LAST SUSPECT YOU WANT TO SEE IS YOUR SON.
Homicide detective Vincent LaMarca (Robert De Niro) learns that his troubled, drug-addicted son (James Franco) could be the one who killed a drug dealer in Long Beach, Long Island. Thatās the ācity by the seaā, a beautiful place that is now decaying, just like the relationship between De Niro and his son. This is largely a drama about recognizing lessons already learnt and stopping negative cycles, but itās also a thriller and thereās even a romance between De Niro and Frances McDormand thatās easy to believe in. Everything wraps up too neatly in the ending, but the actors carry it.Ā
