LET THE MIND GAMES BEGIN.
Two high school boys (Ryan Gosling, Michael Pitt) commit murder just for the hell of it; dour FBI agent Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock) is on their trail. This thriller has a story similar to the one in Rope (1948), but it doesn’t have Alfred Hitchcock’s touch. Not much interesting comes out of the boys’ strange relationship and it’s hard to care for any of these people. It does look good, but the director is unable to create real tension out of this disappointing script. Bullock plays the agent as a depressed version of her character in Miss Congeniality (2000).
2002-U.S. 120 min. Color. Directed by Barbet Schroeder. Cast: Sandra Bullock (Cassie Mayweather), Ben Chaplin (Sam Kennedy), Ryan Gosling (Richard Haywood), Michael Pitt (Justin Pendleton), Agnes Bruckner, Chris Penn.
