Hanging Up

EVERY FAMILY HAS A FEW HANG-UPS.

A father (Walter Matthau) on the verge of dying ā€“ that end of a chapter becomes an emotional time for his three daughters (Diane Keaton, Lisa Kudrow, Meg Ryan) who spend half their lives on the phone. Matthauā€™s final film is a dog, but heā€™s not to blame. The Ephron sisters used their own father as inspiration, but the results are messy and the phone calls become a nuisance. The three stars are louder than an action movie and the whole thing ends with a silly food fight. A shame.

2000-U.S. 94 min. Color. Directed byĀ Diane Keaton. Screenplay: Nora Ephron, Delia Ephron. Novel: Delia Ephron. Cast: Meg Ryan (Eve Marks), Diane Keaton (Georgia Mozell), Lisa Kudrow (Maddy Mozell), Walter Matthau (Lou Mozell), Adam Arkin, Duke Moosekian… Cloris Leachman.
