MAY THE BEST MOVES WIN.
High school student Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) has just made captain of the cheerleading team when she learns all the routines were stolen from an East Compton hip hop squad. It may be hard to understand why cheerleading is such an important cultural phenomenon in the U.S.; this movie offers no real explanation (beyond cute girls), but has endearing qualities. Cheerleading is treated as one of the major sports and the film is essentially a reworking of Rocky (1976). Dunst is charming and itās nice to see the battle between the girls not turn into a predictably ugly exercise.
