DECEPTION IS THEIR MOST DANGEROUS WEAPON.
Ex-Ranger Tom Hardy (John Travolta) is hired to look into what happened one night in Panama when several Rangers disappeared during a training exercise. Director John McTiernan, who has lost his touch since Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October, looked to Rashomon (1950) for inspiration when making this overheated thriller. The filmmakers were hoping that the old formula would make things exciting, but confusion is what they got. Entertaining at times, but the ending ruins everything that precedes it.
