Message in a Bottle

A STORY OF LOVE LOST AND FOUND.

Chicago journalist Theresa Osborne (Robin Wright Penn) finds a bottle washed ashore containing a message; after reading it, she is so moved that she decides to track down the man who penned it. The first film based on one of Nicholas Sparks’s schmaltzy novels is a simple, sweet love story that goes on for too long and offers very few surprises in its central conflict (Theresa doesn’t tell Garret that their meeting is no accident). Still, the cast is good, even though Kevin Costner has done this type of character perhaps one time too many.

1999-U.S. 132 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Luis Mandoki. Novel: Nicholas Sparks. Cast: Kevin Costner (Garret Blake), Robin Wright Penn (Theresa Osborne), Paul Newman (Dodge Blake), John Savage, Illeana Douglas, Robbie Coltrane.

Trivia: Co-produced by Costner.
