Blame It on Rio

YOU CAN BLAME THE NIGHT, BLAME THE WINE, BLAME THE MOON IN HER EYES, BUT WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS… YOU’D BETTER BLAME IT ON RIO.

Best friends Matthew and Victor (Michael Caine, Joseph Bologna) go to Rio on vacation and bring their teenage daughters (Michelle Johnson, Demi Moore); however, a hot night on the beach threatens to end the friendship… A remake of a French film, One Wild Moment (1977), that hardly puts co-writer Larry Gelbart’s full talent on display. There are few jokes and very little in the dialogue that makes this romp special. Likable characters, and Caine is good, but the girls look miscast; Johnson should have been Caine’s daughter, Moore Bologna’s.

1984-U.S. 100 min. Color. Directed by Stanley Donen. Screenplay: Charlie Peters, Larry Gelbart. Cast: Michael Caine (Matthew Hollins), Joseph Bologna (Victor Lyons), Valerie Harper (Karen Hollis), Michelle Johnson (Jennifer Lyons), Demi Moore, Jose Lewgoy.

Trivia: Donen’s last theatrical film.
