Running Mates

A WINNING TICKET OF CAMPAIGN, COMEDY, AND CONSCIENCE.

Governor James Pryce (Tom Selleck) is about to bag the Democratic nomination for president, but as the party convention begins so does the hunt for the right running mate. Plenty of backstabbing behind the scenes as well as a look at the glamor that is part of a showy, balloon-studded convention. Thatā€™s what weā€™re getting here, but this TV movie is overly sentimental and Faye Dunawayā€™s character over-the-top. Is there a message? Well, the liberal ideology that is part of the script becomes evident in the character Laura Linney plays, but don’t look for much depth here.Ā

2000-U.S. Made for TV. 90 min. Color. Directed byĀ Ron Lagomarsino. Cast: Tom Selleck (James Pryce), Laura Linney (Lauren Hartman), Nancy Travis (Jennifer Pryce), Teri Hatcher, Faye Dunaway, Bob Gunton… Robert Culp.
