The Day After Tomorrow

WHERE WILL YOU BE?

Director Roland Emmerich likes to destroy stuff, not least New York, and here he gets the chance to do it like never before, as a new ice age strikes Earth faster than anyone had anticipated. Thereā€™s a message about our climate here, but the formula is obvious, a few subplots are useless and itā€™s hard to really care about the characters. Still, worrying about the planet is easy because of those multiple tornadoes and tsunamis in scenes that are so well made they make you shudder. The filmmakers make sure thereā€™s plenty of good action; even a sequence involving wolves in N.Y.C. is more thrilling than silly.

2004-U.S. 124 min. Color. Widescreen.Ā Directed byĀ Roland Emmerich.Ā Cast:Ā Dennis Quaid (Jack Hall), Jake Gyllenhaal (Sam Hall), Ian Holm (Terry Rapson), Emmy Rossum, Sela Ward, Dash Mihok.
