Kiss the Girls

SMART GIRLS. PRETTY GIRLS. MISSING GIRLS.

Brilliant forensic psychologist Alex Cross, the main character of James Patterson’s novels, was first introduced to movie audiences in this well-paced thriller. Ashley Judd holds her own against Morgan Freeman as Kate McTiernan, a fearless doctor who is taken by a serial kidnapper, manages to escape, and then helps the police track him down in order to save other women in his “collection”. A skillfully directed serial killer flick, it is at times too conventional, but the two leading characters are easy to like. Also, that demented Casanova figure is truly disturbing.

1997-U.S. 116 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Gary Fleder. Novel: James Patterson. Cast: Morgan Freeman (Alex Cross), Ashley Judd (Kate McTiernan), Cary Elwes (Nick Ruskin), Tony Goldwyn, Bill Nunn, Brian Cox… Mena Suvari.

Trivia: Followed by Along Came a Spider (2001). The lead character also returned in Alex Cross (2012).
