Quadriplegic forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme (Denzel Washington) gets involved in the hunt for a serial killer, enlisting the help of a talented homicide detective (Angelina Jolie). Confining the hero to a bed may sound like a bad idea, but Washington has enough charisma to make it work, turning himself into a modern version of James Stewart in Rear Window (complete with all kinds of technology that Stewart didnāt have). Jeffrey Deaverās story has an obvious formula with few surprises, but director Phillip Noyce knows how to create tension and doesnāt shy away from the grisly details.
