Rush Hour

THE FASTEST HANDS IN THE EAST VERSUS THE BIGGEST MOUTH IN THE WEST.

rushhourL.A. cop James Carter (Chris Tucker) is assigned to babysit a colleague (Jackie Chan) from Hong Kong; he’s supposed to keep him off a kidnapping case, but that’s easier said than done. Take a little bit of Lethal Weapon (1987) and some from Beverly Hills Cop (1984) and youā€™ve got this film; plenty of entertaining action and comedy that attracted a larger audience than old fans of Chan. It turns out that he works very well with Tucker who spends the movie trying to give his best Eddie Murphy performance (heā€™s OK, but an acquired taste). The story, where no character should be trusted, is less impressive.

1998-U.S. 98 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Brett Ratner. Cast: Jackie Chan (Lee), Chris Tucker (James Carter), Elizabeth PeƱa (Johnson), Tom Wilkinson, Philip Baker Hall, Mark Rolstonā€¦ Chris Penn, John Hawkes.

Trivia:Ā Followed by two sequels, starting with Rush Hour 2 (2001), and a TV series, Rush Hour (2016).
