America’s Sweethearts

A COMEDY ABOUT CELEBRITY, FAMILY AND OTHER FORMS OF INSANITY.

americassweetheartsA Hollywood publicist (Billy Crystal) tries to bring two separated movie stars (John Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones) together for a press junket. The cast of this comedy is filled with actual stars and it’s interesting to see the most famous of them, Julia Roberts, play a mousy assistant. Crystal and Zeta-Jones are better however as the patient P.R. guy and the egoistic diva. The veteran comedian has a few funny lines, there are times when the movie hits the nail on the head, but the satire lacks edge and the main romance is terribly predictable.

2001-U.S. 102 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Joe Roth. Screenplay: Billy Crystal, Peter Tolan. Cast: Julia Roberts (Kiki Harrison), Billy Crystal (Lee Philips), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Gwen Harrison), John Cusack (Eddie Thomas), Hank Azaria, Stanley Tucci… Christopher Walken, Alan Arkin.

Trivia: Co-produced by Crystal.
