We Were Soldiers

FATHERS, BROTHERS, HUSBANDS & SONS.

weweresoldiersAnother bloodsoaked war movie for Mel Gibson after Braveheart and The Patriot, this time set in 1965 at the beginning of the U.S. military campaign in Southeast Asia, which was to become the Vietnam War. The story is focused on Lt. Col. Hal Mooreā€™s (Gibson) steadfast leadership and heroic efforts for his soldiers in the Valley of Death. First-time director Randall Wallaceā€™s effort is undeniably exciting but unfortunately he never digs beneath the surface of events, and Gibsonā€™s character needs complexity to become what Hal Moore must have been like in real life.
