Against the Wall

A PRISON RIOT THAT BURNS WITH RAGE… EXPLODES IN THE FACE OF AMERICA.

againstthewallIn 1971, conditions in the famous Attica prison were so bad that they caused the now notorious riot; a new guard (Kyle MacLachlan) ends up in the middle of it. The riot was previously depicted in the TV movie Attica (1980) and this version doesn’t quite show why John Frankenheimer became interested in a new take on the story; there’s nothing particularly memorable about it. MacLachlan’s character along with his family remain fairly insignificant to the story, but the surroundings are credibly recreated and it is interesting to see how the riot changes people.

1994-U.S. Made for TV. 111 min. Color. Directed by John Frankenheimer. Cast: Kyle MacLachlan (Michael Smith), Samuel L. Jackson (Jamaal X), Clarence Williams III (Chaka), Frederic Forrest, Philip Bosco… Harry Dean Stanton, Anne Heche.

Emmy: Outstanding Directing.
